OVERVIEW Clothing waste has become a huge detriment to the environment. In America, an average of 16 million tons of unwanted clothing are generated every year! This has been exacerbated by the fast fashion industry, preying on consumers through cyclical fashion trends and poor clothing quality while masking itself as an extremely convenient and cheap way to add clothes to your closet.
Second-hand clothes shopping is a great alternative to fighting this, though it can be inconvenient and inaccessible for people with busy lives.
My goal with this app is to create a user experience that feels unique and fun, while encouraging its users to purchase second-hand clothes.
USER RESEARCH USER SURVEYS
I talked to 6 individuals to understand their perspective on fast fashion and second-hand clothing.
Insights: Second-hand clothing → Mostly positive view of it Thrifting → Concerned about size and style, sorting Vintage Stores → Curated but too expensive! Online Marketplaces → Convenient but hard to sort.
Through these conversations, I found the users prioritized:
Clothing Material/Quality
Personal Style
Convenience
EMPATHY AND AFFINITY MAPS From that, I collated the results and insights from the surveys and interviews into an affinity map and an empathy map to construct a broad perspective for who exactly I am designing for.
PERSONAS
To put a face to the audience I was gearing towards, I created 2 personas of people with different needs, lifestyles, and goals within the context of online second-hand shopping.
