OVERVIEW
Thaali Books exists because South Asian creatives deserve to be celebrated.
They are making powerful work, but it's often overlooked in mainstream art and design spaces. Artists told us they wanted to see more work by people like them. So here we are!
Thaali Books curates and sells independently published works—books, zines, prints, and print-based objects—by South Asian artists and designers in the US diaspora.
Thaali Books started as a senior thesis project exploring representation and visibility in the visual arts. After noticing a lack of South Asian creatives in independent publishing spaces, I began interviewing South Asian artists and designers about their experiences. They all said the same thing: it feels good to see other South Asian people's work, and they wanted to see more of it. That recurring theme of visibility became the foundation for this project. What began as research turned into a mission to create the platform I wish had existed! Thaali is both a curatorial project and a community space, built to showcase the breadth and diversity of South Asian creatives in the US diaspora.
