Rey is a Singapore raised designer based in Seattle, WA. I started my design journey with small projects during high school (such as posters for the drama club) and enrolled in Seattle Central Creative Academy’s Graphic Design program, for the Seattle Collegian, creating comics and article images. I am now pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design at Cornish College of the Arts.
As a creative who was discouraged from pursuing the path from a young age, the most important aspect of my process is that I let myself do it. I allow myself to think big, to experiment with different methods and mediums while giving myself space to constantly learn and improve my skill.
Accessibility is paramount and non-negotiable; I strive to make my work inclusive and empathetically considerate of all communities. I strive to make sure that my work expresses diversity not for the sake of diversity, but to truly understand to the best of my ability and allow others to feel seen and represented accurately.
Sustainability is at the heart of my process, as I commit to continuous learning and supporting eco-friendly initiatives. I think that every designer has an obligation to not only design for humans, but the world that they live in. I strive for my practice to be mindful of its impact on the world, to be well informed on ways to make design more kind to the environment. I strongly believe that profit or our immense comfort is not worth the ruining of our planet but with a bit more effort we can find a good balance, which is a message I hope to spread with my work and process.
